Report and Results of the "Rough Collie Of the Year" contest
held Saturday 15th February 2003.

The British Collie Club held and hosted the Eighth Annual Contest for the "Rough Collie of the Year" event and the venue was The Quality Hotel at Penkridge, Staffs.

Qualifiers to this contest are those Rough Collies that have been awarded a Challenge Certificate during 2002.
The judges this year were :- Mr Peter Chave, and Mrs Peggy Bailey as the Breed specialists, and Mrs Margaret Wildman, the all rounder.

As before, the judging system was based on a non-collusive points scoring system and all the qualifiers present on the day were presented with personalised commemorative rosettes and framed diplomas. There was cases of Pedigree Chum for the first four placings in each sex donated by Pedigree Petfoods who also presented engraved crystal for the "Rough Collie of the Year" and the Runner up.

The British Collie Club also presented commemorative named rosettes and diplomas to those members present whose Rough Collie had been made up to a Champion during 2002.

There were 19 exhibits entered - 9 dogs and 10 bitches with just 3 absentees on the day (1 dog and 2 bitches)
Whilst judging was ongoing, the usual team/table quiz with questions based on the R.C.of the Y. contestants took place with the techno cheating schemes reaching even greater heights. It seemed also that the teams were all celebrating something on the day although some of them took some believing? However all the teams were presented with a bottle of Champagne and a box of chocolates to help them celebrate - further indication that the theme of the day of "no losers just winners" was a reality

On to the results - The top four dogs were:-

2nd Mr & Mrs Kitchen's Ch. Jasand Somethin' Blue For Seriema.

From these results Mrs Anderton's dog, Ch. Karava Blue Kontention was declared the "Rough Collie of The Year" with Mr D Round's bitch, Jasand Panama Hattie the runner up.

The formal functions now over, the crowd of some 100 then enjoyed a well presented buffet meal and then danced the night away to the disco that followed.
