PAIGNTON CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW AUGUST 2009
ROUGH COLLIE CRITIQUE - JUDGE MR A J D RUSTON
My first time awarding CCs in the breed. I had a very good entry with few absentees. Quality on the whole was excellent, as was presentation in spite of weather conditions. Movement ranged from poor to first class. Temperaments were excellent. My winners could all perform their original function & were certainly fit for that purpose. Flapping tent canvas & loud speaker announcements affected some of the dogs, as did the unevenness of the ring, which was a shame. MPD (1) 1 Fryer, Clarke, Stanley & Evans' Stud Bolt Vonarkle, alone, promising baby of around 7 months, balanced head, good dark, almond shaped eyes obliquely set, ears on top, giving sweet but masculine expression, good depth of chest, lovely arched reach of neck, well laid shoulders, well sprung ribs, required rise over loins, good bone, neat feet, tailset good, as was length. Moved well but just needs to tighten up. JD (9,3a) 1 Abbott's Cotswoldway Solomons Gold, shaded s/w, just out of puppy, good head, filled foreface, rounded muzzle, parallel planes divided by correct amount of stop, super dark, obliquely set medium eyes, neat ears on top of flat skull, all combining to give sweet but masculine expression, conformation, front & rear assemblies spot on, good spring of rib, bend of stifle & muscled second thighs, moved true with drive retaining level topline, stood & showed well, coat of correct texture; 2 Boyle's Uffspring Utterly In My Soul over Barrenclough, pleasing s/w, a lot to like about him, although preferred length of head of 1. Well off for bone, good body shape, strong hock joints, well let down, good set on tail, bend of stifle & neat feet, moved well; 3 Denton's Brooklynson Romario. GD (9) 1 Harvey's Ladnar Mr Bojangles from Brooklynson, upstanding shaded s/w in good coat & condition, good order, super head, rounded muzzle, foreface well filled, parallel planes divided by right amount of stop, dark, obliquely placed medium eyes giving sweet but masculine expression, neat ears used to advantage, good bite, excellent depth of chest into brisket, shoulder assembly, ribs well sprung, strong hock joints well let down, enabling sound movement, stood & showed well; 2 C Solomons Gold; 3 U Utterly In My Soul over B.
