Welcome to the home of Vonarkle Rough Collies....

Hope you will enjoy our small showcase, pedigrees can be printed if required, also there are a few photo's in the gallery, ie Lads & Lasses.
Some are serious and some are fun, but mostly celebrate our years in and around the ring and at home through the years of breeding. Though we are a small kennel we have mostly bred when we needed a youngster to show.

We have been asked many times how we decided on our kennel name. Well we originally applied for Rocamar, a popular white wine which we used to drink way back, this was refused by the KC. One evening while dining at a friend's house I was aksed [me, Joan] had I thought of another name, I hadn't and was then asked what was my life long favourite animal, easy, horses I said, Arkle in particular, but I could not use that..so my friend said 'put Von in front of it..in German it roughly means, of nobility, and so that night Vonarkle was born and created.

Previously, the three of us concentrated on different breeds, each having our own interest. Our showing careers spanning almost 40 years. Joan was a breeder of Standard Long Haired Dachshunds that were shown prolifically in the early years, along with Alsations as they were then, now known at GSD. Anita and daughter Sally were into Afghans, then St L/H Dachs and later Roughs. Sally as a youngster showed Golden Retrievers for a family friend and any other breed she found an opprotunity to show. The team also owned, bred and showed West Highland White Terriers.

Even though we specialised in our own breeds we have always had a Rough Collies in our lives and has remained true as a part of our lives and will always remain in a special place in our hearts. They still remain and are quite simply the best we have owned from all those we have ever had.

We started showing Rough Collies in the 1970's - Joan with a dog from Mrs Franklyn and Anita with a dog from Mrs A Chatfield. After a long break we decided we would like to show again and so in 1995, after looking round the ring at various breeders we were able to secure a breeding bitch on terms from Rene Cozens. Janneva Elegance or Ellie as she was known became our foundation bitch and her legacy remains today, still in the home of Vonarkle and all our stock goes back , in some way to her, which continues to this day.

Although we have had some excellent years from such a small family we concentrated on soundness, quality and temperament from well established lines, built on our previous experience in other breeds. We have striven to provide happy well balanced stock, at one time from blue merles but now only tri and sables.

We will continue to enjoy our friends around the shows, some of many years and enjoy passing on any advice to those that may seek it in the future.
