We are a small family run breeding kennels situated in the most glorious countryside in Carmarthenshire, South Wales! They don't call it The Garden of Wales for nothing! We live on a little smallholding with our six chickens, eight cats and six horses. The queen of the whole set up is of course our beautiful Rough Collie......Markenfield's Dream Of Gold, otherwise known as Summer!! Summer is a complete ray of sunshine and eternally happy, hence her name! We are situated at the top of a hill with the most breathtaking views overlooking the Gower peninsula and the Brecon Beacons. We are fortunate to have about eleven acres of lush land for all our precious animals to wander as free as they wish. Our animals happiness is paramount to us.
Hi there, my name is Angela. My husband and I have lived in Wales for three years now. We moved from Hertfordshire in February 2008 having lived there for nearly thirty years. It was always our dream to eventually live in the countryside in Wales but didn't think we'd get around to it for another few years. However we saw our little farm in September 2007 and had moved in by the following February 2008!!! So here we are! Fantastic! And couldn't be happier with our hasty decision, thank goodness! I originally come from a rural village in Ireland where I grew up surrounded by all sorts of animals. My background involved many types of breeding. We bred horses, cows and Greyhounds so I think the breeding bug well and truly got to me then .The safe arrival of any little creature is pure magic and I never cease to be impressed with nature. Be it a gruelling calving, a whimpering newborn puppy, a squeaking kitten or the astonishing rapid graceful arrival of a silky foal. As a child I grew up with collies and eventually got my own first Rough Collie about 24 years ago. She was called Lady and was the most gentle lady imaginable .She was a loyal and loving companion and instilled a deep love of the breed. The time wasn't right to embark on dog breeding back then due to a growing family and horse breeding. Therefore we waited until now to move to the next inevitable stage! Rough Collie breeding! I researched long and hard before deciding on a breeder. However, my decision was easily made upon meeting Mark Hales of Markenfield Rough Collies here in South Wales. My initial visit was met with happily barking collies with tails wagging in greeting. This was exactly what I wanted to see, a breeder who clearly cared about his dogs and had a great relationship with them. He was extremely helpful and friendly and has continued to be. I have been breeding Hanoverian horses for several years but never really did enjoy the showing side. I much preferred to concentrate on the competition side of the horse world. Unfortunately for Summer I never got around to showing her either! I feel rather guilty about this as she comes from a huge line of Champions and would undoubtedly have followed in their footsteps. Summer is now nearly three years old and the time for breeding was right both for her and us! We decided to breed from Summer not only because of her superb pedigree but most importantly because she has the most exceptional temperament. I have yet to find a dog with such a kind heart and unflappable, trainable nature.
She is a shadow to our grandchildren in spite of frequent chaotic scenes involving baddies and space aliens launching attacks! She likes to lounge around and sunbathe alongside our chickens and play cat and mouse with our cats, with her most definitely being the mouse until she rolls over and gets smothered with pussy cat kisses! It is a joy to witness! She very cleverly runs up and down along the fence line of the horses field pretending to race them which they thoroughly enjoy whilst kicking their heels up! One of her favourite pastimes is pretending to round up all the horses when I go to check them! After much research and consideration we finally chose the perfect stud dog for our little lady. He is none other than CH Jopium Touch of Soul for Triburle JW. An extremely handsome young man with the most beautiful nature who had a very successful result at Crufts last year! He won Best of Breed at Crufts and Best in Show at British Collie Championship Show among other achievements! When we first met him he swaggered in with a look on his face that said 'I have arrived'!! His owners Christine and Neil Collins of Triburle Rough Collies have been incredibly helpful and very kindly allowed Summer to stay with them for several nights sleepovers with 'Otis' as he's known! Summer was scanned two weeks ago and confirmed pregnant!! We are all very excited about the puppies and can't wait to see them. With Summer and Otis as parents they can only be gorgeous with the added bonus of rather impressive bloodlines. We hope to keep a bitch from the litter and are keeping our fingers crossed for a safe and happy result. Angela Moore 07703 564 307 01269 834 949 |
