It all began in 1978 when my future husband, John, brought me a sable and white Rough Collie puppy. I had always wanted a "Lassie" when I was small, and she was a much loved companion to me while John was working nightshifts. Her registered name was "Caprina Girl of Golden Sun" - pet name Candy, and although she had prick ears, receding skull and was short in coat, she was a very cute happy girl, but developed a lot of health problems when she was older including bad hip dysplasia.

SHANTALLOW FOLLOW THAT STAR & CAPRINA GIRL OF GOLDEN SUN

In 1979 I bought a sable bitch from a Mr & Mrs Jarvis [Shantallows] who lived in Harwich. Her name was "Shantallow Follow that Star, Sheeba being her pet name. Her sire was Ch. Leepark Glenbarry and she was to be my first show dog. I took her to some local shows and obedience lessons until during the mid eighties dog shows took a back seat whilst John and I raised a family of our own. I also learnt to drive so that when I resumed showing again, I was able to get to the venues by car, and not have to travel via public transport.

By 1990 [having had my affix re-instated], I purchased another sable and white bitch with showing and breeding in mind. This was "Gemma", and she came from the Pelido Kennel.

Gemma attended a few shows as a puppy, where she also took part in junior handling classes with my eldest daughter Nicola. When she was two years old I bred her with "Damirayan Dream Lover at Pelido". From this mating I retained a bitch, namely "Maqueeba Donna Daydreams", Donna.

Donna was Crufts qualified and my fondest memory with her was in 1997 at E.A.C.A. Championship show where she was awarded second in a big Post Grad class from John Walsh [Joshren], followed up by a worthy critique. I line bred Donna back to Ch Pelido Italian Affair, and she produced a lovely litter to him. I retained another sable bitch on "Maqueeba Amba Mist", Amber.
The photo above depicts Donna as a young puppy. .It is with great sadness that at the age of fifteen that i had to have Donna put to rest to save any more pain(stress) she was the first litter i had & through her son my line continues.

Amber excels in front angulation, and a long neck [which happens to be a point of the Standard I like to see in a collie]. Sadly she has not bred on as having mated her on several occasions she has not produced any live puppies, but one of her litter brothers "Maqueeba Italian Dream at Tudorlyn", Spencer, owned and shown by Linda Philpin [Tudorlyn] has won a CC, an award of which as his breeder I am very proud.

In 1996 I introduced a Blue Merle bitch to the kennel. "Jay - Pelido Sugar Moon at Maqueeba". She is a lovely coloured merle with coat markings as described by the Standard. She won well as a puppy, and the highlight of her show career was when as a junior, she won the Res. C.C. at the British Collie Club Championship show from Robin Searle [Surlson]

Jay's first litter was to Cathanbrae Midnight Affair at Pelido. I retained a tricolour bitch this time, namely "Maqueeba Holly Black". One of her blue brothers "Maqueeba Blue Lance" went to live with Brian and Gillian Hull [Lizmark]. This mating produced good bone and substance and correct colours too.

As Amber was unable to breed on, I mated Holly to Amber's brother Spencer to keep in line with my foundation bitch Gemma. She has in turn produced "Maqueeba Shady Lacy", Lucy.

MAQUEEBA SHADY LADY [8.5.02]
[Maqueeba Italian Dream at Tudorlyn x Maqueeba Holly Black]

Lucy has retained the lovely outline that I have been aiming for, and has done reasonably well at the shows she has been to having gained several Best Pupy awards.

However, I felt that I wanted to sweeten the ye and expression in my breeeding plans and decided to expand further on bloodlines for the next generation. Hence I took Lucy for her first litter to "Amalie Mild Affair". In December 2004 she produced a large litter of nine. All fat healthy puppies of whch I retained two siblings.

A dog called "Maqueeba Mildest Dream", Lenny and a bitch"Maqueeba December Dawn", Dawn.

I have been campaigning these two pups during 2005, and am pleased that they have both done well and were Cruft's qualified for 2006.

During 2005 I unexpectantly had Lucy's sister "Maqueeba Just By Nature", Lizzie, return to the kennel. Her owners were going to live in Australia, and felt that the length of the journey would be too traumatic for her. I took a chance and also mated her to Amalie Mild Affair, and she produced four dog pups - one of which I have just begun to show, namely "Maqueeba Ringo Star", Ringo.

Now back to the blues. Jay had a second litter in 2003 to the well-know tricolour "Ch. Sundorne Spiritualist". I ran on two blues "Maqueeba Silver Spirit" Blue, and Maqueeba Blue Shimmer", Summer. However this pair are not keen on shows and prefer the home life rather than the show life. I intend to have a litter from Summer later in 2006.

I try to breed to the standard and aim for good conformation, and temperament I think is a must. I put a lot of thought and planning into my future litters, and endeavour to find the best of homes for any puppies I sell or older stock I occasionally part with.
