MAY O7 CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - CRITIQUE FOR BITCHES - FERN SARGEANT

ROUGH COLLIE BITCHES

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge the bitches at this friendly show and thank you to the competitors for their excellent entry and the opportunity to go over some very nice bitches. In particular I was looking for balanced construction and positive, even movement. Because this is an indoor venue in a Sports Hall, the ability to handle a shiny floor, criss-crossed with lines and mats of different colours became an important factor. There is a tendency too, to place too much emphasis on breeding for very sweet expression on too short a head and bodies with not enough length or height. Finding the correct length of head, body and overall size, without losing the desired expression or becoming too coarse and combining it with the essential need for good movement and sound construction is one of today’s problems. That was what I was looking for and I felt that my principle winners had enough of these qualities to deserve their wins and benefit the breed in any future breeding programs.
