COLLIE OPEN DAY THE BORDER COLLIE BREED COUNCIL, helped by nine Border Collie breed clubs, is holding an open day on Saturday 5th May at the Moira Welfare Social Club in Swadlincote, Derbyshire. The event-which is aimed at promoting a responsible appraoch to health and welfare- is open to everyone, and there will be a wide range of activities for people and their dogs in which to take part. All the border collie breed clubs are working together to organise health testing, and people in all breeds are invited to come along participate and have their dogs tested. There will be clinics held throughout the day including a 20/20 optigen clinic that offers DNA testing for CEA AND CL. For this test it is essential that owners bring with them their dogs kennel club registration certificate. There will also be TNS testing, a BAER hearing test and CEA/PRA testing under the British veterinary Association/Kennel Club scheme. The more dogs that attend and are tested can only be beneficial for the future of the breed. Chris Chapman, a KC Accredited Trainer, is also holding a seminar in the morning on confirmation and movement and another in the afternoon on hands-on assessment. In addition a seminar will be held on "Judge the Judges - Virtues and faults", this is where those who show and judge will place dogs and then be quized about why they placed a dog where they did. Val Tiller will be in attendance to carry out micro-chipping at cut prices. The
Southern Border Collie Club will be staging a companion dog show that
is open to all breeds. Entries will be taken from noon, judging to commence 1pm. There will aslo be an opportunity to be assessed for the KC Good Citizen Dog Scheme, testing at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, plus demonstrations in heelwork to music, agility and obedience. Experienced handlers will be available to answer any questions. Last but no least there will be a fund raising raffle.... Further
