LEEDS 2010 SMOOTH COLLIE CRITIQUE

Smooth Collies

I would like to thank the committee of Leeds for inviting me to judge Smooth Collies, and of course all the exhibitors for coming out on a work day. I was extremely pleased to see the improvement in quality which was particularly obvious in the younger bitch classes-it bodes well for the future of our lovely breed. Just one general problem seems to be loose front movement which appears to affect most of the males and some bitches.

1st: MOORES Miss D J Manordeifi Shadow Chaser: Very well made 10 mth tri, just a little short in back making him too square at the moment. Clean well balanced head for his age, neat ears and good harsh coat. Excellent rear movement, would prefer darker eyes.

1st: HUTCHINGS Mrs F Collidach Molloney Ta Tu You. This 13 mth tri is balanced all through, well off for bone and with an excellent topline and tail carriage on the move. Clean head and sweet eyes.
2nd: RUSSELL Mrs K & Mr R Foxearth Fashion Guru. 14 mth s/w has good angles, but is a little long in loin making him weaker on the move than 1. Neat, well used ears, but his head still needs to develop.
3rd: withdrawn

1st: McKENNA, Mr A & BARDILL Mr M Macgees Street Spirit at Plaisance (Imp). At just 2, this tri is very mature, with free movement, strong bone and a clean head with well used ears. Slight drop off over the loin just detracts from the overall picture.
2nd: FRENCH Ms A Devern First Prime. Another 2 year old, with a good coat, correct angles, fore and aft, but still needs to develop in chest. Flat backskull and well used ears, but still a little loose on the move.
3rd: RUSSELL Mrs K & Mr R Foxearth Fashion Guru

1st: HAYWARD Mr T & Mrs B Ch Sandcastle's True Topic (Imp). This tri embodies the standard perfectly, a clean, balanced head on a muscular, well arched neck, correct angulation fore and aft and solid bone making him masculine without coarseness. The real magic is his side gait, which just took my breath away. CC and BOB.
2nd: HYDE Mr G Londer Look Smart. Masculine sable who excels in head, neat well used ears and flat backskull. Correct outline, with level topline and well carried tail on the move. RCC.
3rd: FORBES Mrs D A & Miss F L Ch Int & Ir Ch Pelghart Paint It Black At Willowhurst.

An excellent class, I’m sure these girls will all swap places on another day, just noticed all the placed puppies are by the BOB!
1st: MOORES Miss D J Manordeifi Silver Sparkle. 10 mth old clear coloured blue with correct head and ear patterns, sweet eyes and responsive ears. Excellent muscling and movement for her age. BP
2nd: GIBSON Mrs R Norcis Airs 'n' Graces. Well balanced 8 mth tri with a good neck, strong bone and a correct harsh coat. Head just not as developed as 1.
3rd: RUSSELL Mrs K & Mr R Manordeifi Satin Doll

Another excellent class, all are potential winners
1st: NORMAN, Miss C A & RATCLIFFE Mr J Foxearth Fashioned In Black. I couldn’t find anything not to like about this flashily marked, 13 mth tri. In gleaming condition, she moved with drive, and presented a picture of femininity without weakness. CC.
2nd: FORT Miss J. M Shulune Imperial Legacy. Another attractive 13 mth s/w. Physically similar to 1, correct angulations, moderate bone, held her topline on the move. Head not quite as clean as 1 yet.
3rd: GRIFFITHS Mrs I M G Alopex Little Summer

1st: HAYWARD Mr T & Mrs B Foxearth Sticky Fingers. S/w sister to CC winner, another very pretty head, set on a good neck, balanced body and with level topline and well carried tail. Not as strong on the move as her sister.
2nd: HOWARTH, Mrs P & GIBSON Mrs R Pelghart Proud Mary. Correct outline, nicely arched neck and attractive ear and eye placement. Reasonable movement.
3rd: TRUNDLEY Mr B & Mrs B Juniperwood Final Affair

1st: HARTLEY Mrs J Foxearth Silver Dream at Jimjack. This clear coloured blue also fits the standard to a T-Correct clean wedge head, neat ears, arched neck, strong bone and tight feet. Flowing movement, just not quite as flashy as CC winner. RCC.
2nd: NEFF Mrs V Hightri Until.  Very similar to 1, feminine head, sweet eyes and responsive ears. Well off for bone, and holds her topline on the move.
3rd: MCKENNA Mr A & BARDILL Mr A Shulune Imperial Flower of Plaisance

1st: HILLS Ms V M Devern Fate a Compli. Very pretty tri, with excellent head patterns. Well angulated rear but her front is a little straight, however she held her topline and was the best mover in the class.
2nd: GRIFFITHS Mrs I M G Alopex Out of the Blue. Another pretty, well marked blue with coat of a good texture, clean head and a sweet eye. A little narrow all through, and lost her topline on the move
3rd: GAY Mr R C & Mrs D J Manordeifi Sapphire Mist At Yagane
